Youth Oratorical competition organised at Yatri Nivas Vanz and Umracchi

July 15, 2024

On July 15, 2024, students from LD High School, Sachin, and Suman High School participated enthusiastically in a program celebrating India's Independence Day. The event was graced by key participants including Devipujak Manojbhai from Nehru Yuva Kendra Surat, Smitaben Patel (District Mission Coordinator, DHEW Surat), Maheshbhai Parmar and Divyeshbhai Gameet (Gender Specialists at DHEW Surat), along with Principal Dr. Nilesh Joshi and staff from the Yatri Niwas Vanz.

The day commenced with the unfurling of the Indian National Tricolour, followed by the National Anthem and songs promoting unity and harmony. Senior students showcased their oratory skills in a competition, eloquently discussing the contributions of leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Sardar Patel. Younger students participated in a fancy dress competition, dressing as these historical figures to honour their legacies.

At Yatri Niwas Navagam, the celebrations were particularly vibrant. Students from Kumar School, Girls School, and Kalambandi Vidyalaya engaged in flag hoisting and cultural performances, embodying the spirit of freedom. The Gujarat Samachar reported that around 100 attendees, including school students, village residents, and teachers, were present to witness the festivities.

The program concluded with teachers interacting with students about the significance of the Dandi March in India's struggle for independence. This educational aspect reinforced the historical importance of Gandhi's nonviolent resistance against British rule. To celebrate this momentous day, traditional Indian sweets and snacks were distributed among participants.

This event not only commemorated India's independence but also served to inspire the younger generation about their rich heritage and the sacrifices made for their freedom. The involvement of local dignitaries and community members highlighted the enduring legacy of the Dandi Heritage Route as a symbol of resistance and unity in India’s history.
